About Me - Maria Vela
Mrs. Vela is an educator who believes that children can be motivated to learn independently and make connections to the real world. She has been in education for 22 years with a master in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Elementary Mathematics and Science. This enhances her ability to serve the needs of her scholars and advance her skills in curriculum development and implementation while becoming a content specialist in the high-demand areas of math and science. .She has been part of Teachers Helping Teachers professional development. She also participated in the Project-Based Learning initiative at the University of Texas at Brownsville, making her a Co-Author of Chapter 6 of Problem-Based Learning Initiative. Currently, she is teaching Bilingual 1st grade, and she has been supporting scholars to grow in their second language through their listening, speaking, reading, and writing proficiencies as well as their Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Her experience and education strongly support all our scholars’ learning and experiences across all core subjects. She is always willing to guide and support our scholars to be successful in anything they dream of doing.
